Success vs. Significance
Every #athlete and #coach wants and strives for #success.
But what is success?
Success is a favorable accomplishment, or prosperity.
Does success make us significant?
#Significance has importance and it adds meaning to things.
Many people tend to think that success leads to significance, but if we look closer at these two terms, we may find different answers.
Success is usually pretty easy to measure. The following items are how we usually measure success:
1. Money
2. Car(s)
3. House/Home(s)
4. Clothes/Swag
5. Possessions – cell phone (model), Video Games, Electronics, Boats etc.
Significance on the other hand is much more difficult to measure, because it is not quantifiable. The following are examples of significant items:
1. Influence
2. Power
3. Servant
4. Respect
5. Faith & Values
6. Family
7. Friends
When we keep score of success in life, what are we really doing?
Money – tool to provide necessities. What you have vs. what you own or owe
Car – transportation; “I need a new car” vs. “I need transportation”
Home/Neighborhood - shelter
Clothes – style vs. covering
Stuff – need vs. want
What really is of significance in our lives?
Influence – Positive or negative example on others.
Power – real power is quiet (martial arts). Knowledge is power. Education is power.
Teaching is power. Technique is power.
Servant – Help others achieve their goals and find their inner strength.
Respect – Treating other human beings with respect.
Faith & Values– in a belief system
Family – we came into this world with a family and will leave one when our time is up
Friends – You are the product of the five people you spend the most time with.
In life, we have two facts that are certain; two things and two things only.
We will:
#Die
#MakeChoices
We do not have to be #responsible for our choices, but as mature members of the human race, we should be.
As you make your #choices in life, always remember, you can be anything you #aspire to be if you are willing to pay the PRICE.
